Two forms of Arabic. Two different goals. Here's how to choose the right one for you.
Confused about Quranic Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic? Here's a clear breakdown to help you decide which to learn first — based on your goal.
One of the first questions new Arabic learners ask is: "Which Arabic should I learn?" It's a fair question — and the answer depends entirely on your goal.
Modern Standard Arabic is the formal Arabic used in news, literature, government, and education across the Arab world. No Arab country speaks it as a native dialect, but every educated Arab understands it. If your goal is travel, business, or general communication, MSA is your foundation.
Quranic Arabic is the classical Arabic of the Quran, revealed over 1,400 years ago. It has a fixed, preserved form — the Quran is the most memorized and recited book in human history, and its language has not changed. If your goal is to understand your prayers, read the Quran with comprehension, or deepen your connection to Islamic scholarship, Quranic Arabic is what you need.
Not exactly. Quranic Arabic is older and uses grammatical structures that are more formal than modern usage. However, learning one makes learning the other significantly easier. Many of our students start with Quranic Arabic and find that their MSA progress accelerates as a result.
At SalasahGo, we offer structured programs in both. Our instructors are native Arabic speakers trained to teach non-native learners, and our curriculum is designed so your time is never wasted on things that don't serve your specific goal.
